Tardy was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan to a family of artists. In 1999, she moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan to attend the Kendall College of Art and Design. While obtaining her BFA, she made a name for herself with her lifelike sketches and soulful paintings.

Tardy’s art came to embody the vision articulated by artist and painter Jeffrey Smart, who stated, “It’s not a matter of painting life, it’s a matter of giving life to painting.” Soon after graduation, she captured the attention of world-renowned artist, Paul Collins. Tardy interned with Collins for over a year. Tardy has since held instructor positions at the Kendall College of Art and Design as well as the West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology and UICA.
